LeBron’s dunk came during a February 3, 2005 road game against the Miami Heat, when the 20-year-old Cavaliers star was still in just his second NBA season. James finished with 31 points and 10 assists, although Miami ultimately defeated Cleveland 100–88.
More than seven years after the play, LeBron James still considered the dunk over Damon Jones one of the best of his career. When ESPN asked James to rank his greatest dunks in 2012, the Damon Jones poster was the first one he mentioned, with LeBron calling the memorable 2005 finish “a classic.”
The matchup also featured some of the NBA’s biggest stars of the era. LeBron led Cleveland with 31 points, while Shaquille O’Neal led Miami with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Dwyane Wade was also in the Heat lineup as Miami improved to 34–14 with the victory.
